Montgomery County
Preservation Assistance Grant
from
National Endowment for the
Humanities
Below are two letters concerning the award of
a grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities to
Montgomery County, Texas for the preservation of records
prior to 1900 in the District Clerk's Office. The first
letter, from Juanita Stanley, describes the assistance of Texas
Heritage Society President, Kameron Searle, in the grant award
process. The second letter is the letter from the
National Endowment for the Humanities notifying Grants
Administrator, Ms. Juanita Stanley, of the grant
awarded to Montgomery County.

Re: Montgomery County Preservation Assistance
Grant
Dear Mr. Searle,
I am writing to inform you that Montgomery County Texas has
been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant in
the amount of $6,000 to assist in preserving the District
Clerk's records prior to 1900 in order to prevent further
loss or injury to those documents. This award will
be accepted at the Commissioners' Court
today.
I wish to express my personal gratitude for the eloquent
letter you wrote in support of our grant request. I
truly feel that we might not have been successful without that
letter. Your ability to "speak historian" to the review
committee was crucial to our securing the
grant.
I further am of the opinion that your persuasive words led the
National Endowment for the Humanities to give our grant the
special designation as a "We the People" award. I am
attaching a copy of the award cover letter which describes this
initiative.
Thank you for the time you took to craft an articulate letter
and thank you for your support of the District Clerk's Office
and their efforts to preserve these important
documents.
Your humble
servant,
Juanita

Dear Ms. Stanley
I am delighted to inform you that the National Endowment for
the Humanities has awarded a grant of $6000.00 in support of

In addition, I am especially pleased to inform you that your
project has been designated a National Endowment for the

effort.
I enclose the official notice of action from the NEH Office of
Grant Management, which provides information on the grant
